In animals the use of antibiotics is not only to treat infections but to also prevent them. In addition antibiotics can be used to promote animal weight gain and productivity.
Anthelmintics also known as dewormers are used for the treatment and prophylaxis of worm infections such as roundworms, tapeworms and flukes, in poultry and livestock. They work by expelling the parasitic worms and other internal parasites from the body by either stunning or killing them and without causing significant damage to the body.
Antiseptics and disinfectants are used to destroy microorganisms that can lead to a bacterial infection. Antiseptics are applied to living skin or tissue to prevent infection and disinfectants are applied to surfaces, equipment and other inanimate objects. They work by destroying or inhibiting the growth of the microorganisms.
An insecticide is a substance of chemical or biological origin used to control and or kill insect pests. Pesticides are chemical compounds used to kill pests. The use of insecticides and pesticides is essential in killing agents of disease that can cause public health concerns and wide spread damage to crops.
